Interns and Fellows
CDA welcomes the opportunity to work with interns and Fellows who are seeking experience working with a collaborative learning organization. Intern and Fellow positions are unpaid; interested applicants must ensure sufficient course credit is available from their academic institution.
Fill out this form with your CV and interests and we will reach out if an opportunity is available:
Fellows are typically graduate students with considerable work experience or other qualifications (that exceed the basic qualifications of an Intern), who join CDA on a short-term basis. There is relevance to our general interest in growing the field of practitioners and leaders experienced with collaborative learning, principles and practices championed by CDA.
In addition, Fellows are:
- Current graduate students with considerable relevant work experience who are working toward their M.A./M.S. degree or PhD, with strategic relevance for CDA and whose education and professional experience enables them to both contribute to and benefit from collaboration with CDA.
- Fulfilling a specific role, such as research for a project, practice area, or development of an organizational system. Ideally, Fellows also contribute to organization learning and work in close coordination with CDA core team members and associates
- Able to commit to working with CDA for 3+ months on signed agreement with CDA, with funding or academic credit for their work provided through their academic institution.
There is not a thick red line between interns and Fellows. We intentionally allow for some flexibility and case-by-case decisions. Therefore, the below offers rather a scoping of “ethos” rather than a criteria:
| Intern | Fellow | |
| Degree | BA or MA student | MA/MS or PhD student |
| Level of experience | Learning their profession and CDA’s tools, concepts, and methods. Asked to contribute as an apprentice, “mentee”, or task-focused contributor | Sufficient professional experience in relevant field, and sufficient familiarity with CDA tools, concepts, and methods, to contribute to CDA as a junior professional |
| Career trajectory | Understood that the intern’s ultimate career path may fall outside of fields in which CDA is a contributor | Understood that the Fellow’s career will unfold in a field in which CDA is an active contributor |
| Length of time with CDA | Relatively short (2-6 months) time-bound presence at CDA | Longer or indefinite time horizon (6 mo +) with CDA |
| Role with CDA | Multiple projects (largely in an administrative or support role) | May include a project-specific role or several programmatic aspects as a junior member of the staff. This is because the Fellow likely has expertise related to an emerging or existing project |
| Supervision | Directly supervised | May work partially or wholly independently, depending on level of experience |
